Advanced Health Screens

Southdowns Private Healthcare is delighted to be teaming up with consultant radiologist Dr Hatef Mansoubi, BSc (Hons) Biochemistry, MBBS, MRCP, FRCR, to offer our patients a truly comprehensive Health Screening option.

Combining a comprehensive physical examination, tests and innovative CT scanning, The Health Screen will not only offer a clear picture of your current health status but also identify potential issues for the future.

The Health Screen will comprise 3 appointments, an initial consultation with one of our experienced GPs when we will discuss your needs and any additional investigations which may be beneficial, followed by a scan appointment with Dr Mansoubi and a return to our Clinic to review your results and discuss any necessary actions.

The Scans

Lung Cancer CT Screen

One of the difficulties in identifying Lung disease and cancer remains that symptoms do not generally present themselves until the later stages of the disease. Early detection of abnormal cells, however, can literally be the difference between life and death as lung cancers caught and treated at Stage 1 have a 90% cure rate, as opposed 20% for those unidentified until Stage 4. Using a Computerised Tomography (CT) scanner to take many computerised images of the lung allows detailed analysis and detection of any tiny abnormalities at the very earliest stage.

This scan is carried out at the Nuffield Health Hospital, Chichester.

Cardiovascular CT Screen

Cardiovascular disease is associated with the build-up of deposits within the arteries, thus blocking or reducing the flow of oxygen rich blood to the heart. It can lead to various conditions including stroke, angina, heart attacks or heart failure as well as affecting other parts of the body. Early detection is vital in the management of this disease.

This scan is 97% accurate and utilises the Aquilion 1 CT scanner which is one of the most advanced scanners in the world. This evidence based screen highlights early cardiovascular disease through identifying raised calcium levels and early hardening of the arteries. Treatment and preventative actions can be taken to avoid this serious and potentially life threatening disease progressing.

This scan is carried out at the Nuffield Health Hospital, Chichester.

CT Colonoscopy

This extensive scan screens for bowel cancers and includes stomach, colon, liver and rectal cancers in addition to pancreatic and ovarian cancers. It is 85% accurate and can detect cancers before even before symptoms manifest themselves. The computer generates a detailed three-dimensional (3-D) model of the colon enabling an internal view of the colon to identify any early abnormalities.

This scan is carried out privately at St Richards Hospital Chichester.

Price £950

Prostate Cancer Screen

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer amongst men and causes 10 000 deaths in the UK every year. Although the causes are unknown, a family history does indicate a greater risk of contracting this disease. However, if caught early and treated appropriately, the recovery rates are extremely good.

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans are particularly effective in identifying soft-tissue cancers, such as prostate, as the magnetic resonance uses the properties of the soft tissue itself to create the detail in the image.

By combining an MRI scan with a blood test to check Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) levels, we can offer a highly effective screen for this disease.
